  2. Is YOUR business card crap??

We’ve produced some over-the-top biz cards over the years…using some of the great special-effect technologies you see in the higher-end collectible trading cards:  Etched-foils, foil-stamp, holographic, image-changing, die cut shapes, and more.

Scroll down a bit and you’ll see an image-changing card produced for LA DJ Danno Metoyer as an example of using lenticular in a business card.

Back in the early 2000’s, our company spent over $50,000.00 to produce biz cards for our team of approximately 20.  The cards had multiple lenticular effects:  Morphing, Zoom-image, 3-D, and image-changing.  All production was offset with plastic laminated back — a really high end card.  So, was it worth the cost?  I know people who STILL have that card on their desk…they play with it while they are on the phone.  From 10 years ago!

Those same effects can now be produced for a few hundred dollars versus tens of thousands.  Paper…plastics…metals — the possibilities are endless!  Hey….this is your BRAND!  Be creative.  Stand out.

  3. This is the first magnetic stripe, stored value gift card ever produced.  This card was run at Triad Color Graphics in Dallas and the job was managed by Bayliss Packaging for Neiman-Marcus in October 1994.  Over $5mm worth of card were sold PRIOR to the end of December ‘94, resulting in Neimans asking for a rush re-order for that Holiday due to overwhelming demand.

This is where stored value gift cards started.

  4. Here’s an example of of both secured and special-effect production technologies.  The United States this week unveiled a new $100 note.  As you can see from the video, there are a lot of effects jammed into this benjamin!  3-D, color-shift process, security threads…good luck trying to duplicate, bad guys.

  5. One of LA’s hottest event DJ’s, Danno Metoyer, uses lenticular flip-image technology to market his brand.  DJ Danno has created a cool image-changing graphic he uses for both business cards and 4 X 6 handouts.

  6. With over $50 billion a year in gift cards being sold…you have to wonder - Who makes all those cards?  Production of gift cards in the U.S. is surprisingly limited to a select few plants who have made the (sizable) investments needed to become a “secured” facility.

This video from Atlantic Zeiser shows their company’s personalization capabilities with the Cardline Versa series.

“High Speed” is the name of the game.  These machines do it all (except the actual printing!) - they encode the magnetic stripe with data; add variable DOD (drop-on-demand) inkjet data to match the encoded data; as well as application of scratch-off panels to cover PINS (personal identification numbers).

So where are these machines?  That answer depends on what your overall production needs would be:  Visa/MasterCard production?  Gift Cards?  Loyalty-VIP?  Short-runs under 1,000…or, large runs in the millions?  Special effects like Chromium or 3-D?

(We know where they’re all at..so hit us up for more information!)

  7. Here’s a video showing how large format “supergraphics” are applied to walls for dramatic city-scape marketing.

One big misconception is that you have to drill holes into buildings to have massive signage.  3M makes a product that..with heat application…can adhere into rough surfaces like brick and like-surfaces.

A cool way to create an old-faded look on city streets!

  8. Ok..So, what are these “special-effects”?  Special Effect Technologies can include many processes, such as what you’re seeing in this video - which is lenticular production.  Lenticular allows for motion graphics and 3-Dimension in print.

Other special effects include holograms, scented-inks, thermochromatic (where temperature reveals a hidden image), and time-reveal (where the prize on a gamepiece is revealed over a pre-determined period).  Want your prize revealed in 10-minutes?  45-minutes?  It’s YOUR call — how long do you want to capture your prospects attention?

We’ll cover more special effects as we progress….

  9. Risk-Managed “Sweepstakes/Gaming” -  We recently produced full-color “Scratch and Win” gamepieces and underwrote the risk on winning for one of our clients.  Each gamecard had a chance to win $10,000.00 cash.
Potential winners were instructed to scratch off only 5 (of the 25 possible) squares to reveal the image underneath.  Revealing 5 gold bars wins the Grand Prize.  Four of the five revealed would win a $250.00 cash prize.  Three revealed - Our client gave away an additional entry into their end-of-the-season $25,000.00 Super Bowl Trip promotion.
Another example of secured production- (similar to lottery tickets…these scratch-off gamepieces have to be secure in their manufacture and delivery).
Included was a risk-managed insurance policy which provided a set-cost for our clients overall campaign expense, regardless of how many winning gamepieces were redeemed.

  10. Umm…So, what is “secured/high-risk” production?
Select production facilities in the U.S. are equipped to manufacture things like Visa, MasterCard, giftcards, loyalty and VIP cards.  This type of plant utilizes specialized equipment and typically have high-level security measures in place to monitor what comes and goes from the facility. For Visa MasterCard production, the security is super-tight!
These types of facilities can also produce other items requiring security for manufacturing and distribution - such as sports event tickets, high-end collectible trading cards, music download cards, and more.
